The Onodera Museum opened on May 14, 2006.
The purpose of the museum is to display the. art collection that Mr. Onodera
has gathered through many years. It includes Chinese calligraphy, Chinese
pictures with calligraphy, Chinese pottery and bronze, Japanese calligraphy,
Japanese pictures with calligraphy, and fabrics from many lands. We hope that
professionals and specialists will find this to be an excellent setting in
which to engage in their research.
The main structure of the museum was
designed by the great architect, Mr. ,
who has been the recipient of a first prize of the Japanese Architecture
Association. He designed the building to
resemble the hat of Napoleon, and its shape is elliptic. The lovely interior has no supporting columns
to distract from the exhibits. The secondary building is an older structure,
called Kihoen. Both are situated in a
peaceful tree covered country setting. Our motto is, “Breathe with nature and
talk with birds”.
In the main building we display
calligraphy, pictures with calligraphy, Chinese ink and ink stones, brushes and
rubbings; we also display the works of famous calligraphy associations. In the
Kihoen, we show pottery, statues, and calligraphy books.
You are invited to stroll, around the grounds and we
hope to provide you a quiet space in the lovely surrounding nature. We look forward to your visit.
